Sometimes you just have to respect a good publicity stunt.
Taking advantage of Twitter's new un-cropped image function, the official Saw franchise account just posted a jarringly eye-catching ad for the new movie Spiral: Saw. It depicts the infamous serial killer Jigsaw, but not as we've seen him before. Rather than being an elderly man in a red and black robe, he's now an extremely muscular guy in a latex body suit.
The more you look at this image, the more you notice. The bow around his neck. The nipple spirals. The tricyle. It's a lot to take in. And it understandably made waves on Twitter, with comments like "the world demands Thicc Jigsaw VS Thicc Thanos" and "finally, someone worthy of Lady Dimitrescu" (a.k.a. the "tall vampire lady" from the new Resident Evil Game).
How do you promote a movie where its biggest moments will be totally inappropriate for social media? By posting something that skirts the line of NSFW content, apparently.
This photo turned out to be part of a corny but funny social media stunt involving the parody account @jigsaw_quotes, which is known for posting absurd fake Saw quotes:
@jigsaw_quotes spent Thursday holding the official Saw account "hostage" while "hacking into" Lionsgate Films and threatening to delete Spiral: Saw. Congrats to the film's PR team on dreaming up such a fittingly elaborate viral ad campaign. But let's face it, the biggest impact definitely went to Hot Jigsaw, an image that played directly into the internet's horny lizard brain.
