Billie Eilish is hitting back at some of the sexism she received following her viral British Vogue photoshoot.
On her Instagram Story, the 19-year-old star shared a meme to counter the Daily Mail’s headline about the photoshoot. Daily Mail’s headline read: "Proof that money can make you change your values and 'sell out': Billie Eilish shocks fans by swapping baggy clothes for lingerie in Vogue — despite years of vowing to 'hide her body.'"
A revised headline was created by influencer Emily Clarkson, according to Yahoo News, and posted by Eilish this week. While the story has since expired, it was screenshotted and shared online by popular pop culture Twitter account Pop Crave, among others.
"Proof that women can change their minds and reclaim autonomy over their own bodies. Billie Eilish shocks fans by swapping baggy clothes for lingerie in Vogue — despite years of being an actual child," the revised headline read.
Eilish recently made the switch from her iconic black-and-green hair to a platinum blonde, shaggy hairdo with short bangs. She’s also gracing the British Vogue cover in a corset and skirt, a change from her usual baggy look—which she has credited in the past to body shamers and body image issues. In the interview to couple the photoshoot, Eilish touches on her evolving style.
It was reportedly Eilish's idea to embody a “classic, old-timey pin-up” girl on the cover, and she even predicted in the interview that she would receive hate once it was unveiled. "'If you’re about body positivity, why would you wear a corset? Why wouldn’t you show your actual body?’” she predicted the critics saying.
And even though she shouldn't have to, she also got ahead of the hate.
“My thing is that I can do whatever I want,” she prematurely fired back.
