Body camera footage shows an English man who was convicted of killing his wife nonchalantly enjoying ice cream hours after the crime was carried out.
While the killing took place on Dec. 15, 2019, the bodycam footage was recently released by Northamptonshire Police, according to Mirror. It shows Michael Reader, 70, drinking a gin and tonic and eating Magnum ice cream while watching the 2019 Scottish Open Snooker Final on the television. Hours earlier, Reader shot his ex-partner Marion Price, 63, through the window of her car.
Police arrived to inform Reader he was under arrest for Price’s murder. “What?” a seemingly shocked Reader says to them. "Can you fill me in? What has happened?"
Referencing Price’s murder, Reader later asks the arresting officer, "When did this happen?"
Reader was found guilty of Price’s murder and sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 31 years, according to Mirror. His best friend, Stephen Welch, 61, was also found guilty of her murder and sentenced to life in prison, but with a minimum term of 27 years.
Welch reportedly helped Reader plan Price’s murder after Reader was ordered to pay her about $14,000 in a divorce settlement. Reader followed Price for months to learn her routine, helped Reader escape after the shooting was carried out, and even helped dispose of the evidence.
Reader was reportedly abusive toward Price throughout their marriage. In 2017, Reader stranded Price in London after she got out of her seat to dance at a Jersey Boys musical, leaving him feeling "embarrassed," according to Mirror. The outlet also reported that Reader secretly put a tracker on Marion’s car so that he could “keep tabs on her.”
