A former U.S. government official hinted at the existence of UFOs, and the internet is on fire about it

The U.S. government seemingly confirmed UFOs' existence recently, and the internet is on fire about the possibilities. However, many are questioning where the viral news came from (a former Trump staffer talking to Fox News.)

According to a report from the Guardian, Donald Trump's former intelligence director John Ratcliffe says that "military pilots and satellites have recorded 'a lot more' sightings of unidentified flying objects, or UFOs."

Ratcliffe was asked on Fox News about a pending government report on "unidentified aerial phenomena," which will document previously untold sightings from "all over the world."

"Frankly, there are a lot more sightings than have been made public," he said, though he falls short of absolute confirmation of UFOs.

"Some of those have been declassified. And when we talk about sightings, we are talking about objects that have been seen by Navy or Air Force pilots, or have been picked up by satellite imagery, that frankly engage in actions that are difficult to explain, movements that are hard to replicate, that we don't have the technology for. Or traveling at speeds that exceed the sound barrier without a sonic boom."

The upcoming UFO report will arrive, published by early June, per a "clause in a COVID relief and spending package signed by Trump before he left office."

According to the Daily Mail, the U.S. also has evidence of UFOs breaking the sound barrier sans sonic boom.

But the pushback isn't the possibility of UFOs or the possibility of alien life; it's the messenger.

Many have pointed out Ratcliffe's alleged involvement in Russia's potential interfering in the 2020 presidential election. In December, as Trump's director of national intelligence, Ratcliffe delayed a report that cited Russia as the main offender.

"Russian President Putin authorized, and a range of Russian government organizations conducted, influence operations aimed at denigrating President Biden's candidacy and the Democratic Party, supporting former President Trump, undermining public confidence in the electoral process and exacerbating sociopolitical divisions in the U.S.," the report found, according to Bloomberg

The former congressman had been locked into a considerable effort in trying to push an unfounded accusation that China was the principal in election interference. The report found China had a reduced role in their individual efforts, along with "Lebanese Hezbollah, Cuba, and Venezuela."

In recent days, UFOs have been a subject of memes and one-liners on Twitter.
